Flahsback
The holographic image showed Konner lying on a white bed in a sterile room. His mother, TiâZellor and JaâSanfur stood in the room around him.
âHeâs coming to,â JaâSanfur said.
Konnerâs eyes opened. He blinked several times, looking around in confusion. His mother, just as strong and beautiful as today, with less grey in her long raven locks cascading in loose, lazy curls down her shoulders.
âHe looks much better now!â she said to an unseen figure.
The High King, in his dragon-scaled cloak stepped into view. The Lorian family crest glowed an azure blue on his chest. Konner looked back at his mother; he leaned forward and threw his arms around her. Shey gently placed her arms around her son in a comforting embrace.
âIâm sorry mother. I shouldnât have touched Starfall, none of this would have happened!â he pleaded.
âIt is not your fault Konner!â the unmistakable voice of TiâZellor rang out.
Konner released his mother and turned to face his general. TiâZellor stepped into frame next to JaâSanfur, both near the High King. TiâZellor turned his attention to Konnerâs father.
âMy son broke a law. Not even we, the house of Lorian, are above the law. You did the right thing my general,â the High King said.
TiâZellor bowed slightly.
âMy king, it was I who sentenced him to the Training Grounds, but it behooves you to know that it was my brother, DoâZellor, who placed him in trials that he was not ready for,â TiâZellor confessed.
This caught both the High King and the Queenâs attention. Shey Lorian looked over at JaâSanfur, worry and perplexity plagued her face.
âWhat does he mean that he was not ready for?â she asked.
Thei mother slowly stood up, her white garments draped eloquently on her body, slits revealing her shoulders and closed halfway down her arms.
âI am ashamed to report that DoâZellor summoned Spinara, three of them, for the first wave. They were hard light holograms so we could deactivate them at any time we needed,â TiâZellor explained. âWhile most cadets do not face Spinara until they are fifteen, we felt that Konner could handle them, so we let that play out.â
The King looked at his son with pride; a smile slowly formed on his withered face.
âThe Lorian family have always been resilient. It is no surprise that Konner was able to hold his own. He has advanced quickly and that is by no short means thanks to your training JaâSanfur,â their father praised.
The general nodded in acceptance of her kingâs compliment.
âIt was not until halfway through that we realized that the second wave, Nelaka, were not hard light holograms but rather the real thingâ TiâZellor continued. âWe tried to shut it down but by the time we could, something rather spectacular happened.â
The High Kingâs attention went right back to his general. Their mother moved over to her their father and stood between him and Konner where she placed a gentle hand across Konnerâs shoulder. TiâZellor looked down at it for a moment before turning his attention back to the report of his time in the Training Grounds.
